“It hit fast,” she says of international recognition from the Internet. “I put it up and it exploded.”
She got the “random idea” to do something fun with her face for Halloween last year. Wee witches, pumpkins and goblins on her lips and eyes “looked so awesome” she tried others, including “magical and fun” scenes inspired by Disney movies.
Some designs, like the blue and purple eyes, are the result of “just playing around,” says Alves, who spends up to two hours in the family bathroom painting her eyes. Usually she takes a picture for her portfolio, then washes it off.
Wearing layers of shadow and liner for any length of time is uncomfortable, not to mention impractical considering that most of her artwork shows to best effect with closed eyes. And it doesn’t help that she’s “so blind” without her glasses, Alves adds.
